(By the end of the lesson students will have been introduced to the meaning and pronunciation of vocabulary related to describing animals; students will be able to produce a short piece of writing).

Ss. brainstorm animals they already know.
T. adds some possibly new animal words (guinea pig, hamster, snake) and names them. Ss. repeat the words.
T. introduces the topic “Animals” and points to the board where some new words are already written on (adopt, shelter, bark, swallow, fetch). T. explains the meaning of the words, gives example sentences and encourages the class to repeat the words accurately.
T. gives the instruction to watch the video “Animal Shelter” and try to remember the animals that are in the shelter.
Ss. watch the video.
Ss. work in pairs and write the animals that were in the shelter.
T. monitors and checks.
Ss watch the video again and fill in the missing words in their handouts to identify what pets the Good family want.
T. checks and gives feedback.
T. splits Ss. in groups and distributes handouts.
Ss. match each pet with 3 things they can do.
T. monitors and then checks the task.
T. asks questions about animals
(What do dogs eat? What can cats do? Can hamsters fly? And etc.).
Ss. answer the questions.
Students write 3-4 sentences about their favourite animals.
Ss.read their work .
T. listens to 5-7 Ss. and gives feedback.
T. gives H/W ( to get ready for speaking about their favourite animal) and gives formative assessment.
